Subaru Announces 2015 Subaru WRX STI Will Show at Detroit Auto Show

This year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit is adding another hot rod to its lineup: the 2015 Subaru WRX STI. And though several automakers are bringing super-sporty rides to the show, we can't help but be beyond excited about this new version of the Subaru Impreza-based rally car.

If you're wondering the STI label on the WRX refers to Subaru Tecnica International, Subaru's performance division. It's a sporty improvement of the already impressive 2015 Subaru WRX, which was shown at last year's L.A. Auto Show.

We expect that the new STI model will include a bit more power than the current model's 350-hp and 290 lb.-ft. of torque, as the edits to the standard 2015 WRX weren't exactly drastic. This model did, however, receive a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected boxer-four engine, so we could see this in the STI model as well.

A six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive will come standard, and we're sure that the STI will receive more aggressive and sporty styling than the standard WRX. We don't expect that the optional hatchback body will be available for the STI model.

More details surrounding the new STI model will be available after it premieres on January 14th of this month.
